The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is one of the most underused Medicare benefits available to Australian families. Eligible children receive up to $1,158 of dental treatment over a two-year period — and a lot of families never fully use it. At Aura Dentists, we bulk-bill every CDBS visit. There is no gap and nothing to pay.
What’s involved
The CDBS covers the dental services that form the foundation of your child’s oral health. Check-ups, X-rays, scale and cleans, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals on baby teeth, and extractions where needed. We also check jaw development and bite — which matters more during childhood than most parents realise.
Who it’s for
Any child aged 2 to 17 who receives certain government payments through Medicare — including families on Family Tax Benefit A and other qualifying payments. The easiest way to check is through MyGov, under Medicare. Your child’s CDBS balance will be listed if they’re eligible. Not sure? Call us and we’ll check for you before the appointment.
What to expect at your visit
We start with a full check-up — teeth, gums, X-rays where needed, and a clear explanation of what we find. For younger children, we take our time making the chair comfortable before we do anything. Nothing happens without you understanding it first. You’ll leave knowing exactly where your child’s teeth stand and what, if anything, needs attention.

We bulk-bill every CDBS visit. No gap, nothing out of pocket for covered services. If treatment is needed beyond what the CDBS covers, we’ll tell you in advance and in writing — before anything proceeds

Log into MyGov, go to Medicare, and look for your child’s CDBS balance. If it’s there, they’re eligible. Not sure? Call us — we check for patients every day and can confirm before you come in.

Orthodontics, cosmetic treatments, and hospital-based dental care are outside the CDBS. If your child needs anything in those areas, we’ll walk you through the options and costs before proceeding.
