Composite resin fillings in Cranbourne North.
A filling is only as good as how it’s placed. Composite resin bonds directly to tooth structure โ but moisture during placement breaks that bond. Every filling we place is done under rubber dam isolation to keep the tooth dry, packed incrementally, and cured layer by layer. That’s what makes the difference between a filling that lasts and one that doesn’t.
What’s involved
Composite resin is our primary filling material โ tooth-coloured, shade-matched, and bonded directly to the remaining tooth structure. We carry a full clinical range: nano hybrid composites for general restorations, highly filled composites for back teeth under heavy load, injectable composites for tight spaces and cosmetic work, and flowable composites as liners and for difficult-to-reach areas. The right type is selected for each specific tooth and situation.
For certain cases โ root surface cavities, high caries risk patients, or as a base under composite โ we use GIC (glass ionomer cement, Fuji type), which releases fluoride and bonds chemically to tooth structure.
Composite is also used for bonding and veneer-style restorations. It’s one of the most versatile materials in dentistry and plays a role in everything from single small cavities to full mouth rehabilitation cases.
Who it’s for
Patients with cavities needing restoration. Patients wanting to replace old amalgam fillings with tooth-coloured composite. Patients being phased through a larger treatment plan who need cavities addressed first. Patients interested in composite bonding or cosmetic improvements to front teeth.
What to expect at your visit
We isolate the tooth with a rubber dam before placing any material. The composite is built up in increments โ each layer packed carefully and light-cured before the next is placed. This reduces shrinkage stress and produces a stronger, longer-lasting bond than placing the full filling in one go. The bite is checked and refined after the filling is complete. Most single fillings take 30 to 60 minutes depending on size and location.
Costs and payment plans
Composite fillings range from $100 to $700 per tooth depending on the size of the cavity, the number of surfaces involved, and whether the restoration is a standard filling or a composite veneer. We confirm the exact fee before treatment begins. Private health funds with extras cover typically contribute toward the cost. We process health fund claims on the spot via HICAPS.
What patients usually ask before booking.
Local anaesthetic numbs the tooth completely. You’ll feel pressure and vibration โ not pain. We always confirm you’re numb before we start. If we expect any post-procedure sensitivity based on the depth of the cavity, we’ll tell you beforehand.
ย
Composite fillings placed under rubber dam isolation and cured in layers typically last 5 to 10 years or more. How long any filling holds depends on its size, where the tooth sits in the mouth, and how the bite loads it over time. Large restorations on heavily used back teeth wear faster than small fillings on less-stressed teeth.
Composite fillings range from $200 to $700 per tooth. Small single-surface cavities sit at the lower end. Large multi-surface restorations and composite veneers sit at the higher end. We confirm the exact fee before we start. Most private health funds with extras cover contribute toward the cost.
Yes. Old amalgam fillings can be replaced with tooth-coloured composite. We remove the old material carefully and assess what’s underneath before rebuilding. If the tooth has deteriorated significantly, we’ll tell you whether composite is still the right option or whether a ceramic overlay would hold up better long term.
Most single fillings take 30 to 60 minutes. Multiple fillings in one session take longer. We can group fillings by quadrant โ treating one section of the mouth at a time โ to keep appointments efficient and manageable.
